In the first quarter of 2021, the UK's iOS platform saw significant activity among the top Film & Television apps. Sensor Tower data provides us with a closer look at their performance in terms of downloads, revenue, and weekly active users.

Netflix experienced a decline in downloads from 100 thousand in the last week of December to 60 thousand by the end of March. However, its revenue showed resilience, with figures fluctuating around the 300 thousand mark each week, and weekly active users started at 4 million in late December, dipping slightly in February before rising to over 4 million again by the end of March.

Amazon Prime Video downloads saw a sharp drop from 200 thousand at the end of December to around 40 thousand in late March. Revenue trends were somewhat volatile, with a peak of 200 thousand in late January and a low of 150 thousand in early March. Weekly active users declined from over 1 million in late December to around 950 thousand in early March before recovering to nearly 1 million by the end of the month.

Disney+ also followed a downward trend in downloads, starting at around 80 thousand and finishing the quarter at about 60 thousand. Revenue, however, showed an uptick towards the end of the quarter, reaching a high of 700 thousand in the last week of March, and weekly active users peaked at nearly 2 million in late February before stabilizing at around 1.6 million.

BBC iPlayer showed mixed results in downloads, with a high of 70 thousand in early January, a dip to around 30 thousand in early March, and a slight recovery to close to 40 thousand by the end of March. With no revenue to report, the focus is on its active users, which saw a modest range between 300 thousand and 400 thousand throughout the quarter.

Channel 4 had its downloads peak at 70 thousand in early February, followed by a decrease to 30 thousand by the end of March. Revenue remained relatively low, with the highest point at 10 thousand in late February. Weekly active users showed a decline from over 300 thousand at the end of December to below 250 thousand by the end of March.
